NETFLIX SHOW BRIDGERTON BREAKING THE STATUS QUO

Bridgerton was a show I was actually waiting for since I first saw the trailer on YouTube. Here is a little synopsis in case you never heard of this show. Bridgerton is a historical fictional drama based on the books by Julia Quinn. It follows the story of Daphne Bridgerton and her family as they navigate the new debutante season in London.

However, there is also an anonymous writer appropriately named Whistledown who provides the inside scoop on the scandal and drama that is occurring in the city. Now, back to the plot. Daphne-the apparent diamond of the season- is attempting to find a suitable match for marriage, however, Whistledown names her "ineligible" due to her inability to actually retain any suitors. This is where it gets interesting. The Duke of Hastings, an old friend of Daphnes older brother Anthony, comes back to London to settle his affairs. Upon seeing Daphne struggling, and also attempting to avoid marrying, they come into an arrangement.

They are to pretend to form an "attachment." That way, they get what they both want and nobody gets hurt. Yeah, like that always happens. Anyhoo, this show does bring something new. It gave me gossip girl vibes with a historical drama twist to it. This plot was captivating and the character development in this story is off the charts. Netflix has really done a great job in providing a diverse slate in their portfolio, and not to mention that Bridgerton has an interesting "backstory" by having Queen Charlotte as the first bi-racial royal. Shondaland, you have truly outdone yourself! Bravo!
